Urban horticulture plots
Our plots are used to grow both vegetables and a wide range of herbs. Vegetables are sent to the Social Supermarket, the Toreke eatery and residents of the neighbourhood. This enables us to work on the basis of the ‘short chain' principle, i.e. to grow and consume vegetables in our neighbourhood without generating transport pollution or having to rely on energy guzzling refrigerators. Moreover, we are able to deliver really fresh vegetables, straight from the field. Half an hour after being harvested they can be on your plate in the Toreke eatery or on sale at the Social Supermarket for you to take home. Our horticulture plot also accommodates a small greenhouse for plants that prefer a slightly warmer climate such as tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, etc. All our vegetables are grown organically, i.e. without pesticides or insecticides – but with far better alternatives!
